Maggie moved to the South Hams in 2005, having lived and worked in Oxfordshire for 25 years. A love of drawing, since childhood, led her into concentrating on painting at A level, which she intended to specialise in when she trained as a teacher. An inspirational ceramics tutor, however, changed her pathway and working with clay became a passion and her main subject during her college years.
Having spent many years bringing up her family she returned to teaching in primary schools and also worked on a variety of projects in schools in Oxfordshire involving dance and drama.
Studying for a City and Guilds Watercolour course over three years, encouraged Maggie to experiment more with mixed media and different art techniques and helped her return to painting.
Maggie is a member of Press Gang Printmakers, based in Salcombe, and works mainly in drypoints, collagraphs and monoprinting.
Her large mixed media work incorporates torn papers, textiles, photographs and text.
Inspiration comes from the beautiful surroundings in Devon, the patchwork fields, hedgerows, and the ever changing sea. Also her garden provides good source material, particularly her hens.
She runs workshops in her studio and her images are immortalised on mugs, tea towels and cards which you can see on her website.
